Great comment. I think the continued posturing is what led us here though. Our elected officials refuse to have meaningful conversations on debt reduction and spending because for them it's "politically unfeasible" aka it won't get them re-elected. I refuse to give anyone kudos for whatever band aid they place on this in the next 24 hours because the reason we are here is because they simply won't talk about defense, Medicare/Medicaid or social security reform. It's all about re-election and now we're paying the price for their inaction and posturing. I think the Jefferson quote on your blog is spot on, and if our officials today had the passion for what's best for their country like Jefferson did versus their own self interest we wouldn't be in this place.

I think many debates in the past have been more about posturing than anything else. This debate still has that, and the 2012 elections are playing a part too, but I think there are some real disagreements about what is best for our country. About the direction our country needs to go and how quickly it needs to get there. This is probably the most hopeful I have been in a long time.

I like to look for the positive, too. (Or at least the less negative.) It's also occurred to me that if we can just pass a climate and energy bill then we can get going on renewable energy projects. Then hopefully everyone will lose interest in OCS exploration and drilling.

Not sure how I stumbled onto your blog, but I did and I feel a small need to respond. Especially in your referencing of the NYT article.
Remembering that abortion is legal argument in the first trimester, Tiller had performed abortions as late as 8 months. I believe even those on the left can see that this might just be a little wrong as well as beyond illegal. Does not justify his murder by any stretch, but dont get holier than thou when he was clearly breaking the law.
Obama himself has stated Limbaugh is just an entertainer. Yet there are still many that claim he is the true leader of the RNC. The left cannot have it both ways. Either he is a leader and a threat, or an entertainer and not to be taken seriously.
I dont think (or know or care if) Obama may still be a Muslim, but when there are pictures all over the net of him attending Hamas fundraisers with Edward Said, I think it is safe to say he aligns himself.
And other than the number killed, I fail to see the difference in actions between Tim McVey and Bill Ayers.
Now where is that Big Hate? Just because it is in the Times does not make it fact.
